Once the initial messages are sent, hopefully you’ll be well on your way to a first date. How do go about setting this up? We say don’t beat around the bush—just come out and say it.

It can be as simple as asking “Would you like to meet sometime?” or you could be more official and ask them out to dinner. Whatever you decide, just don’t be scared to ask. If you’ve had good conversation up to that point, then you probably won’t be rejected. Even if you do get rejected, at least you won’t be wasting your time on someone who wasn’t right for you.

Man or women—it doesn’t matter who makes the first move. Whoever is ready should just ask. You never know if the other person is shy and just hasn’t mustered up the courage to talk to you about it.

After getting that set, then there’s the question of where should the first date be.

Let your imagination roam freely. You can go anywhere from a nice bar to a five-star restaurant. Whatever you select, just make sure that you and your partner are on the same page. Even special events like a party would be good first date options. You want the date to be at a place where you can both relax and be yourselves while getting to know each other.

Some places aren’t good for first dates such as movie theaters, clubs, or even someone’s house. Clubs can get to be too loud to have a conversation. Movie theaters are too quiet and again, no room for conversation. Your home is quiet, so it’d be great for a first date, right? Wrong. Do you want to risk your potential date to not be who they say they are? Keep it in a public place just to make sure. You never know for sure who you’re dealing with.
